Class 8 Maths – Chapter 14
Factorisation
STEP 1: Basic Concepts
🔹 What is Factorisation?
Factorisation is the process of writing a given number or algebraic expression as a product of its factors.
🔹 Factors
Factors are numbers or expressions which divide another number or expression exactly.

Example:
12 = 3 × 4
Here, 3 and 4 are factors of 12.
🔹 Algebraic Factors
In algebra, factorisation means splitting an expression into simpler expressions whose product gives the original expression.

Example:
x² + 5x = x(x + 5)
🔹 Why is Factorisation Important?
  • It simplifies algebraic expressions
  • Helps in solving equations
  • Makes calculations easier
  • Very useful in higher classes
🔹 Types of Factorisation (Overview)
  • Factorisation by taking common factors
  • Factorisation by grouping
  • Factorisation using identities
🎯 Quick Tip for Students:
Always look for a common factor first before using other methods.
