73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992

The 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992 was a major reform in Indian democracy. It provided constitutional status to Panchayati Raj Institutions and ensured the decentralization of power to rural local governments.

This amendment introduced Part IX into the Constitution titled "The Panchayats" and added Articles 243A to 243O. It also introduced the 11th Schedule, which lists 29 subjects that can be managed by Panchayats.
