Economics for Common People – Part 1 What is Economics?
Every day we make choices.
Should we spend money now or save it? Should we buy branded products or local ones? Should a government build hospitals or highways?
Economics is the study of choices.
1️⃣ Why Do We Need Economics?
Human wants are unlimited.
But resources are limited.
- Limited money
- Limited time
- Limited land
- Limited natural resources
Because resources are scarce, we must choose.
2️⃣ The Problem of Scarcity
Imagine a family with ₹10,000 income.
They need:
- Food
- Rent
- School fees
- Medical expenses
But the income is limited.
They must decide what is most important.
That decision-making process is Economics.3️⃣ Economics Is Not Just About Money
Many people think economics is only about money.
But economics is about:
- Human behavior
- Choices
- Trade-offs
- Opportunity cost
When you choose one option, you give up another.
The value of the next best alternative is called Opportunity Cost.
4️⃣ Two Main Branches of Economics
- Microeconomics – Studies individuals and small units.
- Macroeconomics – Studies the entire economy.
We will study both step by step in this series.
Economics is not about becoming rich. It is about understanding how society uses its limited resources.
